High school students have been sensitive to the ticking clock of longevity and are at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC-UC) of the University of Coimbra to investigate cellular aging. Students on other internships will also be conducting experiments to investigate the possible relationship between the biochemistry of the gut and the brain, as well as learning science communication skills.
Ciência Viva's summer internship program is back. In its 27th edition, it already has 806 students registered, of which 580 have already been accepted by researchers. There are 338 internships spread across 130 research units across the country.
The launch is scheduled for next July 19, Wednesday, at 11.00 am, at CNC-UC with the participation of the Secretary of State for Higher Education, Pedro Teixeira, the President of the CNC-UC, Luís Pereira Almeida, the researchers responsible for the internships and the President of Ciência Viva, Rosalia Vargas.
So far, about 19,500 students have had the opportunity to work side by side with scientists, participating in internships promoted by research units across the country.
About "Ciência Viva no Laboratório"
"Ciência Viva no Laboratório" is one of Ciência Viva's main programmes, organized in collaboration with the scientific community since 1997. Scientific institutions are invited to submit proposals for internships in their laboratories for young people in 9th grade, secondary and vocational education, giving them the chance to experience research work side by side with scientists. The aim? To help students shape their future.
From cancer research to new challenges in biology, from robotics and artificial intelligence to social dynamics, the topics are varied. Internships are hosted from the north to the south of the country. In some cases, accommodation is provided for students from other regions, who thus have the opportunity to get to know laboratories and research institutes far from their home area.
from their area of residence.
